Songs to Wish by - Three Wishes Blog Post

Today I’m participating in the Three Wishes Blog Blitz, hosted by author Juliet Madison! From 2nd to 6th September you’ll have the chance to win some awesome prizes at all the blogs participating in the blitz, including mine. All you have to do is follow my instructions below for winning the prize I have on offer, and then you can click over to Juliet’s blog to enter her prize draw, and see the list of all other blogs taking part and enter their giveaways as well. How cool is that? Why is it called the Three Wishes Blog Blitz? Juliet’s new  romantic comedy release, I Dream of Johnny, is about three wishes, a high-tech genie in a lamp, and one very unfortunate typo that proves magic isn’t all it cracked up to be…

Rather than share three wishes, I thought I'd share three songs that have "Wish" in the title, and what they mean to me.

Pink Floyd sang "Wish You Were Here" in 1975. I'm sure I didn't understand it then, but now when I hear that song I think about all the people I've loved who aren't here with me right now. It has a haunting guitar riff and a melody that sticks in my head. And the way he sings, "So... so you think you can tell..." is so heart-wrenching.

In 1988, Terence Trent D'Arby sang "Wishing Well". This is a totally different song, really upbeat, and I don't know why I like it, but he had such a sexy voice (although, listening to it now, I'm not so sure!).

And in 1992, Sophie B Hawkins sang, "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover". This song really hit a chord with me. I'd moved out of home, had an imagination that was really active, and a string of infatuations I did nothing about...but damn, I wished I was their lover! :)

So, do you have any songs that inspired you to Wish? And if not, do you have a favourite song?

Giveaway
I'm giving away a copy of "The Virginity Mission" where Mac wishes she could lose her virginity to the very sexy Jason. All you have to do is leave me a comment on this post. I'll pick one random winner for an ebook prize and a hot magnet for your fridge.

Contest closes 12 noon, Friday 6th September (Sydney time). I'll announce the winner here on my blog.

Once you’ve entered my giveaway, visit Juliet’s blog & enter her giveaway too. Then visit any or all of the other participating blogs to enter more prize draws (I think there are 45!). You could potentially win a whole heap of prizes! Good luck! Visit the official Blog Blitz post here:

  1. Not sure about a song that inspired me to wish... but great concept for your post. I love that Sophie B Hawkins song too, and anything by Pink Floyd works for me. I think my favourite songs (2 I can't separate) are: Walking In Memphis, and Every Breath You Take.
Both kind of strike me as 'wishing' songs as they're so emotional and visual I think.
Good luck with the blog blitz!

    1. Hi Lily,
When I was writing this post, I decided that lots and lots of songs I loved were about wishing! So to narrow my picks down I went with 'wish' in the title, and there aren't many!

Good luck with the blog blitz too.

    1. Hi Laurie,
Thanks for visiting my site. There's something wonderful about Bon Jovi. They have great music, great lyrics and the songs stick with you forever. Great choice.

      Good luck!

  3. I love Pink Floyd & have all their albums (Note I said ALBUMS - yes I'm that old). Their songs have some poignant messages which can bring me to tears. Ooooh, I love Walking in Memphis too. I have too many favourite songs to mention & play different ones for different stories when I write. My latest sci fi romance, coming soon, was written to the Madagascar sound track - don't ask. I'm not in the draw Cate, plus I already have a copy of your fabulous story, The Virginity Mission.

    1. Hi SE
Thanks for stopping by to tell us about your songs. I won't ask about Madagascar...but those kid shows often have very catchy soundtracks. I've been known to bop along to a few!

Oh, and I remember, and own, albums! Even have an old record player to play them on :) I've even said a couple of times recently, "Oh, I love their record." Yep... old! :)

      Thanks,
      Cate xoxo

    1. Hi MJ,
Oh, Bryan Adams... He has some great songs. I went to his concert once and he is a super entertainer too. Oh yes, Mumford and sons, they have good music too. Love your song choices.

      Thanks for visiting.

  6. Great idea with the songs. Love Terence Trent D'arby's song. As for a song that inspired me recently (kinda got something to do with the theme 'wish') is Darius Rucker's "If I had wings" ... Love it ;-)

    1. Thanks, Iris :) I'm glad you like Terence trent D'Arby. I'm going to have to check out Darius Rucker's song because I don't think I know it (but maybe I just have a different name for it in my head!)

  7. I remember the Sophie B Hawkins song - at school we thought it was a little bit naughty because of the 'damn'! (I think we were about 8).
I can't go past Robbie Williams' songs for emotion (from happy to sad to angry) - I'm into Tripping and Candy at the moment.
